I Want to See Students Impacted by the Love of Christ

Brazil is taking over DBU International social media for the month of April, and we are doing a blog series telling our wonderful Brazilian students' and faculty's, and staff's stories! Luiz Jesus is an International Administrative Recruiter and Liaison at DBU. He shared the story of how he came to DBU as a student and later became a staff member. His story is an amazing example of God’s grace and leading!

“Ever since I became a Christian at 14 years old I have had a passion for missions. I went to Youth With a Mission (YWAM) and worked with the founder of YWAM Brazil, and I met my wife on a missions trip. She is from Spain, and a couple of years after we got married we moved to Spain where we ministered as worship leaders at a church there. My sister-in-law worked at Christ for the Nations (CFNI) in Dallas, and she told us that we should come to CFNI. God ended up calling us to the U.S., and we came in 2005. We attended the pastoral and leadership school at CFNI and became licensed ministers. In 2004 I went on a missions trip to Tibet near Mt. Everest, and while I was there God spoke to me about His calling on my life. He told me that He wanted me to pursue missions in business. While we were at CFNI, God began to lead us towards DBU through friends and prayer. In 2006 I began attending DBU, and God gave me the Bible passage Joshua 1:5-9 to encourage me and confirm His working in my life. God has given me the courage and strength to do things I never thought I would do, from coming to the U.S. to attending DBU to staying at DBU instead of returning to Spain or Brazil.”

“I began as a student worker driving for the International Office, and it was very important to me to show people God’s love and grace when they got into my bus or van. I was able to minister to others and to preach the Gospel through that job. In 2008, Dr. Cook talked to me about what I was going to do after I graduated from DBU, and I told him that I was going to return to Spain and work in business as missions. He told me that he had a burden in his heart not only for Brazil, but for all of Latin America,, and that he was looking for someone to be a servant leader to these countries through DBU. He said to me, “That person is you.” He asked me to consider becoming a staff member at DBU. I had just purchased our plane tickets to go back to Europe, but I realized that I had been running away from what God was calling me to do. Matthew 6:33 says to “Seek first the kingdom of God.” The Lord guided Dr. Cook to offer me that job, and He guided me to accept it. Randy Byers, the Vice President of International Affairs, found the perfect job for me, which is recruiting, specifically in Latin America.”

Why do you do what you do?

“I love what I do. Ever since I became a Christian, my prayer has been, “Lord, if you give me nothing, but you let me see Your face and see you smile at me, I will be happy.” God has given me so much, but those things are not the focus of my life. I want to hear Christ call me His good and faithful servant. I am crazy in love with Jesus, and I want to serve Him with my whole heart. I want everything I do to be for Jesus. That is why I am at DBU. God called me here to be a part of something that is changing people’s lives and pointing them to Jesus, and I am looking forward to seeing many more International students impacted by the love of Christ.”
