IGE Lecture Series

IGE Lecture Series brings scholars, artists, professionals, public officials, and government leaders to the University to share their personal insights from their life experiences. The lectures span traditional disciplinary boundaries and involve individuals of exceptional accomplishment representing a broad spectrum of backgrounds and interest. Past lecture series have allowed the DBU family to hear from former President George W. Bush, former Secretary of Defense General Jim Mattis, and more recently, geopolitical forecaster George Friedman.

Mike Pompeo

Pompeo will speak on his new book, Never Give an Inch: Fighting for the America I Love, which details the formulation of his revolutionary America First policies, interactions with world leaders, and time under the Trump Administration.

Amb. Samuel D. Brownback

International Religious Liberty - October 16, 2018

Sam Brownback, the Ambassador at Large for International Religious Freedom, spoke on the role of the US concerning international religious liberty. Before taking this position, he served as Governor of Kansas (2011-2018) and as a U.S. Senator (1996-2011). He gave an overview of the current global situation regarding religious persecution and shared why religious liberty is so essential to economic prosperity and human flourishing.


Dr. Henry "Fritz" Schaefer III

Faith and Science - March 2, 2018

Dr. Henry "Fritz" Schaefer III is a computational and theoretical chemist and one of the most highly-cited scientists in the world, with a Thomson Reuters H-Index of 117. He is the Graham Perdue Professor of Chemistry and Director of the Center for Computational Chemistry at the University of Georgia. He led a discussion regarding faith and science on University Hill. An outspoken Christian, Dr. Schaefer has described himself as sympathetic to teleological arguments, but primarily a "proponent of Jesus."

The Christian Witness in the Political Square - February 12, 2018

Michael Gerson, nationally syndicated Washington Post columnist and Chief Speechwriter and Assistant to the President for Policy and Strategic Planning under President George W. Bush, joined us on campus about the Christian witness in the public square. He elaborated on how Christians might engage the political arena at the highest levels while making an influence and impact for the cause of Christ. Michael also overviewed the current political environment, including many of the opportunities as well as challenges at hand.

Dr. Peter Dysert

The Promise and Perils of Genetic Medicine - September 19, 2017

Dr. Peter Dysert serves as Chief of the Department of Pathology at Baylor University Medical Center and is a renowned doctor. He lectured on the topic of genetic medicine, and then Dr. Jim Denison, Co-Founder, and CEO of the Denison Forum and Resident Scholar for Ethics with Baylor Scott & White Health moderated a conversation with Dr. Dysert on how genetic medicine effects our personal medical care and faith.


Matthew Dowd

Bridging the Growing Political and Social Divide - February 6, 2017

Matthew Dowd, a current ABC News political analyst, formerly served as the chief strategist for the Bush-Cheney 2004 presidential campaign. Dowd’s remarks focused on the current political climate in America after the 2016 election. Dowd pointed to the need for leaders in America to bridge the growing political and social divide, which has grown even more divided in an age driven by social media and sound bites. According to Dowd, “We are drowning in data but thirsty for wisdom.”

In Concert - October 17, 2016

Kristen and Keith Getty are world-renowned singer/songwriters. They shared about the importance of the hymns we sing and the way in which it shaped our understanding of who God is. They also hosted a small worship concert.

The Enduring Legacy of Ronald Reagan - February 6, 2016

Jim Broaddus and Dale Petroskey discussed the “The Enduring Legacy of Ronald Reagan." Dr. Jim Broaddus was the Commanding Officer at Camp David during the Reagan Administration. And Dale Petroskey currently serves as the President of the Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce and former Assistant Press Secretary to President Reagan.

Veritas Lecture Series

The DBU Veritas Lecture Series brings thought leaders and industry professionals to discuss difficult issues on the Hill. Controversial and challenging topics often go unaddressed, but this event creates an environment for DBU students to participate in a dialogue with the professionals who are leading the change. In the past, Veritas has brought leaders to campus for discussions over racial reconciliation and transformative habits.

Brent Leatherwood

Winsome Witness - February 6

Brent is the President of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission. Prior to his work at the ERLC, Brent worked at the Tennessee Republican Party, the Tennessee General Assembly, and within various roles on Capitol Hill. Brent graduated from the University of Central Florida. Brent will be discussing how Christians can faithfully engage the culture and the public square while maintaining a winsome witness.

Justin Giboney

Redemptive Justice - September 9

Justin Giboney is an attorney and political strategist in Atlanta, GA. He is also the co-founder and president of the AND Campaign, a Christian civic organization. Giboney seeks to educate and organize Christians for civic and cultural engagement that results in better representation, more just and compassionate policies, and a healthier political culture. He led Patriots in a discussion on Christian civics and community engagement.

Forum on Depression and Anxiety - March 26

Dr. Jordan Davis, Director of Counseling and Spiritual Care represents a sliver of progress in the pervasive national issue of college students' mental health, which he has seen first-hand in both academic circles and Christian circles.

Racial Reconciliation - February 26

Pastors Bryan Carter (Concord Church, Dallas), Jason Paredes (Fielder Church, Arlington), and Dr. Jeff Warren (Park Cities Baptist Church, Dallas) led a discussion on racial reconciliation. As a part of the Veritas Lecture Series, the night sought to encourage conversation and solutions to an important problem, one that not only causes divisiveness within the church but within the world as a whole.

A leading economist, Dr. Anne Bradley is involved with Think Tanks in the Washington D.C. area and serves as the VP for Economic Initiatives at the Institute for Faith, Works, and Economics. She will be giving a talk title “Freedom, Flourishing, and Free Enterprise”.

Alumni Wayne Hamilton and Jonathan Fechner, along with pastor Chris Simmons, (representing Bridge Builders and Cornerstone Baptist Church, respectively) discussed ministry pertaining to the challenges the urban community faces, and how both Cornerstone and Bridge Builders have allowed service development for DBU students.

Ambassador Mukantabana

International Human Rights - September 10

Join us on September 10th as Ambassador Mukantabana, Rwandan Ambassador to the United States reflects on the 70th Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Ambassador Mukantabana lived through the Rwandan Genocide in 1994 and will be speaking on the topic of Human Rights with time for Q&A at the end.
